Toast the benefits of red wine
A major heart study of more than 13,000
patients carried out in Copenhagen, Denmark in the 1980s found
that daily wine consumers have literally half the risk of dying
at any given age when compared to those who never drank wine.
More than 100 scientific studies have been published since 1991
providing strong evidence that moderate wine consumption can
be a part of a healthy lifestyle.

Red wine contains a natural chemical called
resveratrol which helps reduce the risk for heart disease because
it inhibits blood platelet build-up in the arteries. It is highly
concentrated in the skin of grapes and is abundant in red wine.
Resveratrol has also been shown to have a number of other potentially
beneficial properties including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory
and anti-cancer effects.
Home vintners should be aware that the grape crushing process
commonly used among commercially packaged wine-making kits can
cause the loss of resveratrol.
